Plant Overview

PLANT OVERVIEW

The 2 x 67.5 MW Coal based Captive Thermal Power Plant is located near Anantapur village in Cuttack district in the state of Odisha. The BPPL (100% subsidiary of Tata Steel Limited) Plant has long term Power Purchase Agreement to supply different Units of Tata Group. The major portion of the Coal is being sourced from Mahanadi Coalfield (MCL) and balance from other sources as per the requirement.

Salient Features
  • BPPL has two (2) 67.5 MW Thermal Power Plant consisting of ISGEC make CFBC type Boilers and straingt condensing type turbine (Siemens make). For evacuation of power, BPPL is connected with 132 KV grid system of OPTCL network through LILO arrangements.
  • The raw water for fulfilling plant requirement, is being drawn from Mahanadi River which is approximately at 1 KM distance from Main plant site through a In-take well pump house situated at the river bank.
  • The coals are being stored in a coal yard inside the plant site having a storage capacity of 30 days operation approx. Further, the coal are being processed through a Coal Handling Plant (CHP) with a capacity of 500 tonne per hour (TPH) and after processing through crushers, screens and conveyor belt it goes to coal bunker of Boilers for further feeding into the Boiler furnace. The Power is being generated @ 11 KV and stepped up to 132 KV for connectivity with 132 KV Grid system.
  • Ash Handling system is designed to handle up to 60 % ash in Coal. Fly Ash Silo storage capacity - 2 x 1500 Tonnes. Bed Ash Silo storage capacity - 1000 Tonnes. The Ash generated is utilized in nearby brick and cement plants.
  • Mahanadi River is the source of water supply to fulfil process requirement of plant. The water treatment plant broadly consists of Pre-treatment plant, filtration and DM plant. Raw Water Storage Capacity of 60000 cum sufficient for 7 days of plant requirement.
  • A zero discharge system is adapted by reusing all the waste water for Ash conditioning before discharge, road sprinkler Coal yard dust suppression etc.
  • The fire protection system is common for the total plant. The fire protection system is designed to provide a safe operating environment for equipment and personnel. It consists of :
    • Pumping system consists of 2 Electric Jockey pumps to keep fire hydrant pipe network pressurised, 2 Electric Main Pump and 1 Diesel Pump are kept in standby mode which shall start during event of fire when pressure drops.
    • Fire detection and alarm system for Control rooms, Cable cellar, belt conveyors etc have been installed.
    • Fire hydrant system for this plant consists of underground ring mains, hydrant valves, risers and above ground branch headers with isolation valves. Fire water network is installed in order to cover entire plant.
    • Hydrant points are present in all buildings and technological structures and Fire monitors are present in for all the plant areas and coal yard.
    • MVWS system is provided for cable galleries / Cable spreader rooms of Main Plant (TG building),Coal Conveyors, Transfer towers, Fuel Oil Pump. HVWS is provided for Generator transformers, Station, Transformers & Unit Auxiliary Transformers located in the transformer yard and any other transformers of rating 10 MVA and above, Boiler Burner Fronts, BFP Lube oil tanks , Main lube oil Tanks, Clean & dirty Lube Oil Tanks Control Oil Tanks, Generator seal oil system.
    • Automatic Inert Gas Fire suppression system is provided for central control room, Central equipment room, Battery room, UPS room.
    • Fuel Oil storage tanks for Light Diesel Oil (LDO) is protected with the fixed Foam Injection System for the liquid surface protection.
